Pokemania

For the last week or so I have been getting into Pokemon Diamond.

Here is a trainer card with my friend code and current party.

Generally, the top row of Pokemon remain constant (and are the highest levels), while the bottom row rotates as needed.

So, post a comment with your friends code if you have any.

Playing Definitely Is Believing

I was at my cousin's last night and he had a Wii on loan and I got to play some Wii Sports.

Now, I'm DEFINITELY impressed with the Wii and can't wait to get one of my own.

48.5 on Film Exam

It's not a "you failed so bad that you can never make it up" mark, but it's not good either.

World of Warcraft Pet Peeves

Today two pet peeves really came up while I was play WoW.

The first was getting attacked (and killed, many times) by an opposing player, while I was in a middle of doing a quest. I know that this should be expected on a PvP sever, but it sure is annoying.

The second thing, which really got on my nerves, is that I was PMed my someone, while in a battleground, telling me that I shouldn't attack with my wand and should use spells instead. This really got to me for two reasons: A) I don't like being told how to play the game. B) I prefer, especially in a battleground, to use 1.7 wand casts, as opposed to spells that may take many seconds to cast, which may result in me getting attacked or killed during the process. The irony in this is that I ended up getting my best battleground score (even getting higher than the person who was telling me how to play).

Well, I thought I would get that off my chest.

Preliminary Wii Thoughts

I tried out Wii today in an EB Games store.

I had to relinquish my ID to get the remote (as assurance that I didn't run off with it). I was surprised at how small it is.

My first impression of the interface was that the cursor could have been a bit more sensitive to movement. However, I was in-store standing less than two feet from the system, so I won't make a big deal about it.

The game loaded in the system was Excitetruck. Personally, I would have prefered something like Zelda, Red Steel, or even Wii Sports.

It look some time to get used to playing a racing game by actually steering (I crashed many times), but I eventually got the hang of it and even got first place.

And that's my first Wii experience.

How advertising I.E. 7 to Firefox users leads Yahoo to hypocrisy

I decided to test a story I read on Slashdot, where Yahoo advertises I.E. 7 to Firefox users in their search results.

Let's just say, the results didn't really convince me to make the switch (make note at what the ad says, then look at how I performed the search).

When you get exhausted playing videogames

I don't usually post Video Game News articles, but this one is worth posting.

Well, I've done it....

I can say I've officially lost my mind and purchased World of Warcraft today BEFORE the trial ends (though the good thing about that is that it adds a few days to the 30 free days given with the purchase)

I'm just going to use the monthly subscription, since, based on US to Canadian exchange rates, it's the cheaper option. Personally, I'm hoping they one day add PayPal as a payment option and it will make things MUCH easier.

World of Warcraft 10-Day Trial: Day 3

I only played for about half an hour this morning (and, since I'm staying late at school, I don't think I will another chance today).

For the most part after playing around a bit, I finally settled on a profession for my character (herbalist/alchemist) and I also tried out some fishing (which compared to fishing in other adventure/rpg games like Zelda and Fable this didn't involve much, if any, strategy).

I do say that I am softening up to the game and I may buy it after the trial (using gamecards to pay). It's still unknown whether, if I purchase the game, I will continue with this character or, probably more likely, start a new one (for freshness).

World of Warcraft 10-Day Free Trial: Day 2

Not much new in today's gameplay other than doing some quests.

I did take briefly take a Zeppelin to a new area and I also explored the Undercity.

I would probably like to purchase the game for the sole purpose of completing the quests, though I'm still not convinced the monthly fee is worth it. I'd fear that I would purchase the game as a result of liking the trial and end up getting bored on it very quickly.

The same thing happened with The Movies.

World of Warcraft 10-Day Trial: Day 1

So, what did I think of World of Warcraft?

Well, I thought the gameplay is very similar to Diablo, which is a favourite game of mine (I really should continue playing it sometime). However, I am currently not convinced that this game is worth paying to play. Especially considering that I usually just concentrate on completing quests instead of interacting with the other players (I briefly joined up with one player, but that didn't last).

I will keep playing it during the trial, but, even though I think the game's fun, I doubt I will be willing to pay the subscription fee to keep on playing. And that's a shame. Essentially I need to see something very awesome in the game to change my mind.

Giving WoW a try

I signed up for a 10-day free trial of World of Warcraft to see what all the fuss is about.

Sadly, it involves downloading the entire game, so I have to wait like 4 hours to try the game out.

Terrible design, bad features, most of my "friends" are profiles for bands, TV shows or movies.

I only really stay registered to keep an watchful eye on my younger brother's profile.

First Day Back at School = Waiting in Lines

Today was my first day back at York (after a very boring summer I might add)

I only had one class (and it didn't happen, since I have to wait for the first lecture on Monday).

The rest of the day was spent waiting in lines. I had to wait in lines to sell books, buy books (that one took over an hour), and register to use the gym. Even after that, there are more lines I have to wait in the coming days (such as picking up my OSAP loan)

To top it all off, after school I waited for about 45 minutes to get a ticket to the Toronto Film Festival :P
